Dena Woerner, Communications Manager, Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism


Dena Woerner is VP of Grow Socially, a multi-channel marketing company. She is the former Tourism Division Communications Manager for the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism.  In that roll she was responsible for the research, writing and photography for Arkansas.com including 18 niche Web sites. She served as editor for Arkansas Tourism publications including the Arkansas Tour Guide, Arkansas Adventure Guide, travel brochures, and industry newsletters. She was responsible for public relations and worked with traveling journalists and film crews from all over the world, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in media exposure annually for Arkansas.  She wrote the social networking and media plan for the Tourism Division, launching the division into the social scene in January 2009. Creating an influential presence, Arkansas Tourism is found on many social networking sites. As part of this initiative, VisitmyArkansas.com, a social networking hub, was developed. Through her efforts, Woerner positioned Arkansas as the first tourism agency in the United States to boast a Whrrl home page, a Hot Deals and Packages iPhone Application and has embraced QR code technology. Woerner teaches Marketing for Pulaski Tech Culinary School. Prior to joining ADPT, she served as the Director of the Pine Bluff Convention and Visitors Bureau, Director of Specialty Market Sales for the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, Director of Sales for Hyatt Hotels, Inc. Hyatt Place, Fort Wayne location, and served as an instructor for the Hospitality and Tourism Division of the Consumer and Family Services Department for IPFW and for the college of Distance Learning.  She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Marketing degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a Master of Arts degree in Professional Communication from Purdue University, and a received certification in Tourism Crisis Communication Management from the University of Florida. She is a published freelance writer and editor.
